IPL – The experience

Happened to watch the IPL match last Saturday.  I am not a great cricket fan, however, this experience was good one.  For a change, I was cheering for Royal Challengers and being a part of a game like cricket; a game which I never watched after my 10th.  The more amusing part was that although I am a great fan of Sachin Tendulkar, I hoped his wicket fell.  And felt extremely bad when I saw my fav cricketer getting back to pavilion.  It must have been such a challenge for people from various Geos get together and play a game.  I also found it very interesting to notice that this whole business of IPL had employed so many people from all Geo’s.  Wow… just too amazing.

Coming to the match itself.  I experienced the great positive energy the fans brought in.  Few were supporting Mumbai and most were supporting Bangalore.  However, there was so much of cheer and fun in the stadium.  The DJ also adds the right amount of fun factor and breaks the monotony of the game every now and then.  This was quite important as most of us got bored or fed up during the second half when RCB was loosing.

Also, most importantly… I was glad that my family and many more families like mine returned home very safe and sound even after the bomb blast.  I felt that the policemen did a great job there and handled the situation very well.  They gave us all the comfort and security required.  I am feeling so good about the fact that we still have the government that takes care of us so well.

The only sour part Bangalore takes today is the loss of revenue due to with the semi-finals moving out of Bangalore and the whole idea of terror and the bad elements increasing in Bangalore slowly and consistently.  I think its time that our central government makes some strategy to control and eradicate this terror from India.

It rained finally…

It was just a couple of days that I had spoken of the increasing heat in Bangalore and GOD decides to cool the place with the most required rain!  :-)   Wow… this is such an amazing feeling…

The feeling I am getting is almost like I am just dipped my leg in water after walking on hot coal.

Oh ye Summer!

The summer this year has been really very bad for Bangalore.  I don’t remember any previous years when Summer got this hot in March itself.  Bangalore summer is known to be pleasant and also it is known to be sweat free.  However this year, sweat is something that comes within 5 minutes of exposure to sun.  More strangely, I miss that cool breeze also that would come now and then and ease the summer feeling.  Lot of people I know have faced high headache/ sun burn / skin problems etc as a part of this summer package also.

Looks like we software guys have flooded Bangalore and reduced the trees here to make our homes.  The garden city has now become a concrete city.  There are no gardens as there were before.  So, its time when we do our bit to keep the city green.  Lets fill our balconies and terrace with plants.  Lets use green to do our interiors of the house.  And by doing this, we will only help ourselves and not anyone else.  Lets take a step now and plant few plants every where we can… Lets go green this summer!

Do you know your neighbour?

Since a week now, I seem to be roaming around Bangalore doing some invitations.  Covering various areas and various houses in Bangalore is not  easy.  So, we end up asking few people here and there in the close by areas about the where about of the address.  In a similar search, I got confused in a 3 floored building.  Since the address did not have the floor Mr. Srinivas(name changed) lived in, I happened to knock at one gentleman’s door and checked if it was Mr. Srinivas’s house.  He politely replied, “No Madam”.  As an obvious next question, I checked with him if he was in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd floor?  And the gentleman smiled again and said, “I dont know, may be you can check the houses above mine… the owner stays in 2nd floor… hmmm… sorry… I just go to office and come back and have no time to check who stays above… “.  He had a very embarrassed face and I immediately thanked him and said that I would check and not to worry.

However, this episode put me into a thought.  Do we know our neighbours?  At least 3-4 who live in the same apartment or who reside beside our home?  Well, Bangalore traditionally is very friendly a place.  If I only go back 15 years from today, I still remember all the neighbours we had in Padmanabhanagar.  My mom simply has her whole set of friends in her old neighbourhood.  And it did not stop with one or two houses… it went for 9 to 10 streets :-)

We had good get-together, nice games, talent hunts, samosa parties, cookery fests, festive celebrations etc  Life was so much more than just office and home.  :-)   Today, in my apartments itself, I dont know more than 5 to 6 people.  Strange na…We are so stuck at office, traffic, bla bla and bla… that we dont even know our neighbours?!!?  What a cultural change?

Now, life seems to be running behind achievements, money, fame, etc that we seem to have forgotten friendship, bonding, relationships… etc.  What a transformation!!!   Man is moving from being a social being to a machine.  We indeed lead a very mechanical life.  :-(   I sincerely hope that the old social culture is still ON in few areas of Bangalore.

Well, do you know your neighbour?

Media from bad to worse!

Early in the morning, people on their TV’s to understand the whats in news.  Whats really happening around them and bla bla… While the men read news papers, women like me might want to have the news channel ON so that we are updated with news while we are busy in the kitchen.

I made one such attempt today and was very curious to know how is the flood conditions in Karnataka.  I kept swapping between NDTV and CNN IBN to just find a one liner – “Floods in North Karnataka receding”.  While the news channels are covering the following news in main stream -

  1. Aamir Khan is going to colleges and advertising his movie 3 idiots ( Wow… what an important thing to know in the morning!)
  2. Gauri Khan is shy ( Ahhh… oh ya…. ???  Thats interesting)
  3. Arjun Rampal is in London ( So, what do we do???)
  4. Katrina Kaif is the brand ambassador for Royal Challengers and she was dancing ( Wow… Is that more important that all who lost homes)
  5. China is a competitor to us… guess why?  People there are learning Hindi and Bharatanatyam ( Ok… I can at least digest this one)

It’s really surprizing, such a huge calamity has hit us and there is not even a proper coverage.  Is this is the same media who made a HUGE NEWS of swine flu because around 4-5 ppl lost their life… Open your EYES… more than 170 people have lost their life.  More than 4 lakh families have lost their homes…. Is it something that does not bother them?

It’s really very sad state.  I want to end this blog with a message for our MEDIA in their style… “WAKE UP #%**%^$@#”

Music that rocked Bangalore

Music that rocked Bangalore

Last Saturday, Hari and I happened to be a part of IIMB campus watching the genius play.  I have always admired them making good music for movies.  Ofcourse, one thinks that magic can be made due to technology.  However, it did not take us long to understand that the magic was in their talent.  A complete orchestra with talented people.  The best of all was the magical voice of Shankar Mahadevan.  More than that, he has a special way of keeping himself in connect with his audience.  They made the evening pop, rock, romantic, emotional, party as well as classical.   I am still full of smiles when I think of it.  If you missed them this time, don’t miss them the next time!

Saree or Jeans

Around 15 years back women/girls wearing jeans pant or jeans half pant was like a big thing to talk about in the society.  Presume one girl would wear a jeans pant with a T-shirt around 15 years back; there was also a society that called them hep and trendy.  Its like the ultimate  thing to do…

Its true that today, jeans is a very normal thing.  What surprises Bangaloreans today is the advancement from wearing sufficient clothes to wearing less clothes.  :-)

I have suddenly seen taste in our traditional dressing.  Somehow, I enjoy wearing sarees and I think that it makes a women complete.  It simply suits any women… Indian or western or eastern … anyone…   A saree with its complimentary traditional make up like, few bangles, one cute bindi and other mixed accessories.  Its just too cool.

If worn well, it is also very easy to carry and yes, with right choice of saree and accessories it even looks very professional.  :-)

Well, since my taste towards sarees increased off late; I saw myself wearing them to office quite often than before.  And guess what, people think that there is something special that day.  Its hard for them to believe that its a normal day.  :-)   I see a significant part of the society observing me in a saree and guessing whats special?

Is saree setting a trend?  It looks like the traditional dress is now the IN THING to do.  Try it out and I challenge its making a fashion statement. :-)

Black Magic?

Whats that?

Around 2 weeks back, I was on a quick vegetable shopping walk near Padmanabhanagar.  And on one corner of the road I see something that catches my attention.

Look at the picture… shocking isn’t it?  It looks like some black magic attempt to me.  Look at the contents… lime, some doll with lot of red colour, one hawai chappal, one peice of cloth, coconut, flowers… oh!

Cannot beleive that the evil people are just all around you… even where you live.  I kept seeing such things in some TV serials and read about such attempts in novels… however… this was like an encounter with truth.

Rain – 21/05/2009

On 21st of this month, I witnessed the heaviest of rain fall.  The rain just splashed our car glass and made the bright evening turn to a dark night.  As we drove, we observed that lot of cars gave up on driving, switched their indicators on and lied low on one corner of the road.  And yes, the slow and steady drivers still managed to get home with 20km/hour speed.

Usually Bangalore rains are intermittent.  It never rains heavily and for long hours over here even during monsoon.  However, this day was different.  The dark sky had lightning like a wave of disco.  Wooo… it was nice however scary…

To top it all, the next days newspaper reported death of a father and son due to this lightning.

Monsoon in Bangalore is one of the best seasons.  It creates a day long uncertainty and rains in the evening.  One can spend time at home with loved ones and pakoda’s that evening… :-)   I hope that nature does not become hard on us and take away bright side of this season by repeating such death episodes.

New business model

We were on our mini shopping in Jayanagar.  Jayanagar 4thBlock complex is a very commercial place.  Its flooded with bangaloreans on Saturdays and Sundays.  One will find lot of traffic and lot of noise over there.

In that busy area, we heard a group song.  A song that is sung really in a bad manner.  Not pleasing at all.  My eyes started searching the source of this noise and I find a group of 5 beggars, holding a bowl with one hand and supporting one another in another hand and singing songs.

Wow!  What a business model.  Group begging…

The shock has not sunk in yet.  Bangalore, a beautiful city I came to in the year 1989.  And the deterioration that is going through here.  Its quite quick.

The IT sector did bring in growth and the mall culture.  As there was improvement in revenue front, I see lot of deterioration in terms of the culture of the city, life style of the city and even the “garden” side of it.  Now we can see more flats, business units etc… in other words, “concrete jungle”.

This city is still unique and nice its own style… however, I am shocked to see the increase in the count of beggars in the last one year.  Hope most of the bangaloreans have observed this.  Initially it started with few mothers with hungry naked kids.  Slowly, we had kids of 5-6 years perform various stunts on road and ask for money… Then we had the increase in handicapped men on road.  Suddenly the major signals of Bangalore had eunuchs asking for money.

And now… this group singing model… GOD!!!!!

Somebody seems to be slowly and steadily increasing their business.  Lot of our relatives and friends could be in trouble because of such monsters who are making money out of them.

Its time that Karnataka government takes some action.  Please control this begging issue.

In the mean time, I request all Bangaloreans to stop having mercy on beggars and help them increase their business.  The guys with end result are millionaires by cutting someones hand, someones leg or plucking someones eyes.  Wake up Bangalore!!!
